Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and sinister influences growing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Revealed
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd close behind.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile place.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the team enter places they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by the family.
This means them few options but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Questers and Planners tables.
